Unique Ideas for Roses
Thursday, November 12th, 2009Roses are one of the most beautiful and well-loved flowers of all time. They come in a variety of colors ranging from white to antique pink to sunny yellow to deep red and including just about every shade in between. You can even get interesting hybrid roses that are multicolored: white with red tips or orange with red tips. With so many unique varieties out there, you should never settle for ho-hum rose arrangements. Instead, use some imagination to create memorable gifts from these lovely flowers.
A dozen red roses can be a great symbol of love, but it can also be a little cliché. One way to mix up the tradition is to send a dozen roses in different colors; to really make this work, assign each color a meaning, either a personal one or one that comes from the traditional meanings of flowers. Another way to spice up the dozen roses is to give them one single rose at a time throughout a day, or to create a scavenger hunt on which your beloved finds a rose with each of twelve clues.
Roses can also make beautiful decorations for parties or formal events. Instead of going with the typical large bouquet of roses and green filler, though, try some of the following ideas. Group five or six yellow, single-stem roses in several small vases, which will look interesting and informal. You can also use tiny tea roses in fishbowl vases for appealing little mounds of color, of you can have roses arranged into wreaths to hang on doorways.
As you can see, it isn’t difficult to get a little more creative with roses, as they are a very versatile flower. While we tend to think of them as formal – maybe even a bit stuffy – they can also be informal, and although we typically think ‘red’ when we hear rose, the sheer number of colors available is an aide to creativity and ingenuity.
